The "Bonehead" (July 23, 2009)

On Thursday evening, we decided to take a family stroll on the trail behind our home. On Thursday evenings, there are a lot of kids practicing football and cheerleading on the field behind our home and adjacent to the trail. As of late, some of the parents have decided to spread out on the trail blocking some of the area. This drives me crazy when I am trying to run on the trail plus they leave behind garbage. When we went for our stroll, the football team was practicing close to the trail and the kids started running towards us on the trail. As the football players got close to us, one of the coaches threw the football at one of the kids and came close to hitting the stroller and me. Well....this was Landon's first encounter with another parent who made him mad and he told the guy that it was a "bonehead" move to throw the ball and he should watch out for us. First...I have not heard "bonehead" in a long time - Landon said he thought it was a very family friendly thing to say - could have been much worse! The guy got very defensive and kind of loud with Landon - he seemed to be mad that Landon called him a "bonehead" in front of people. We said our peace and walked away - through the group of parents spread out on the trail. The moral of this story is we have many days ahead of us dealing with "bonehead" parents and I hope we gracefully handle them. I think there are a lot of "boneheads" when it comes to kids' sports and organized activities! Sage before our encounter with the "Bonehead"...
