Gasparilla Race 2010! (February 27, 2010)

On Saturday, February 27, 2010 I (finally!) got to run in the Gasparilla 5k race. I have been attempting to run in this race for 2 yrs. In 2008, I had trained for a couple of months then got pregnant in January and did not want to chance the run. We lost the baby in March but by the following year, Sage was born around the 2009 race. Sooooo....I was very excited about participating in this year's race!

It was a VERY cold morning and there was a 70% chance of rain. We were hoping the rain would hold off until the run was over but no....it started just before the race started. Oh well....better than running in hot weather! There was a 15k race at 7 am and the 5k started at 8:30 am. There were about 10,000 people running in the 5k race so it was very crowded! The race was a beautiful route along Bayshore Blvd and I finished about 3 minutes faster than my last race. I was very happy about this as I kept getting boxed in during the run due to the number of runners. Also, for some reason, a lot of people were walking very early in the race and were in my way. I finally found a good spot along the median and tried to stay here for most of the run. I am very happy to have finally been able to run in the Gasparilla and look forward to hopefully running the 15k next year!
