On Saturday, June 5 we headed out of town for Sage's 1st trip to the Florida Keys. As with all our trips with Sage, it takes double the time and triple the space to travel with this little princess! We started packing & preparing the Thursday before we left and there was little room left in Landon's Expedition after we finished packing. A couple of days before we left, Sage started walking holding just one of our fingers so we knew this vacation would be full of fun!
We stayed on Little Torch Key in an amazing vacation home that is located on a canal with direct access to the ocean. Little Torch is about 25-30 minutes from Key West. The drive, which should take about 8 hours, took us 10 hours due to the kayaks moving, towing the boat and multiple stops with Sage. She was a wonderful traveler and did have some moments of "antsi-ness". Landon's car has a DVD player in the back. I swore I would never plop my baby in front of the TV but this trip made me realize how helpful these DVD's can be on a long trip. I happened to bring some baby sign language DVD's and scored a Barney video at a Publix along the way. When Sage would get restless, we popped these in and let her be soothed by the babies and purple dinosaur.
The home we rented was even more beautiful in person and so clean! We spent our days kayaking, swimming in the pool, biking, relaxing and taking the boat out for sunset cruises. On our last day, we took Sage to Key West and she had her 1st experience at Sloppy Joe's. Thank goodness she does not understand a lot of words as the band was singing and saying some off color things! We ventured down to Mallory Square for the famous sunset and entertainment. With Sage's new-found walking skills, we held her hand and let her stroll around Mallory Square. She loved the fire juggler, the unique 2 man band whose dog collects tips (Sage gave him a tip) and just loved looking at all the birds flying overhead and all the people. We ended the evening with some ice cream and met some new friends at the ice cream parlor.
We did leave 2 days early as one of our dearest friends passed away. We wanted to make her memorial service on Friday so packed up and headed home on Thursday. The return drive only took 9 hours as not as much trouble with the kayaks and boat.
Sage's 1st trip to the keys was very successful and we are certain she cannot wait to return!
Packed up and ready to hit the road!
Our organized chaos...
Sage & Daddy kayaking...she is attached to Landon with a lifeline...
A gecko at the house...
Sage & Momma walking to dinner...we took the boat to a restaurant "Parrotdise", docked and enjoyed dinner. After dinner, we went on a sunset cruise.
Getting ready to go biking! This day was an adventure as I got a flat tire. Sage & Daddy rushed home and picked up me and my bike. I was determined to walk home but the heat and sun got the best of me!
Walking to the pool...
Sage, Momma & their floppy sun hats!
We had a visitor to our pool...
Sage's spot on the porch...she loved watching all the boats go by in the canal and would wave and shout "HI!" to the boaters. For some reason, she loved standing in her toy basket (see pic)!
The Princess getting ready for another sunset cruise!

looks like lots of fun! I know how much work goes into getting ready for it and each day - it's a trip but not really a vacation, not that you would trade it! :-)
