Sage turns 11 months old! (January 24, 2010!

On Sunday, Jan 24 Sage turned 11 months old. We are just 1 month away from our baby being 1 yr old!! As we say every month....just cannot believe how time flies when you are having fun. In the last month, Sage has had some rapid development in eating, crawling and other areas. She has developed such a cute, sweet and feisty personality - cannot wait to see how this grows.

For this month's picture, we took one in Daddy's chair before we went the Gasparilla parade. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get Sage to sit in her chair for pictures so we had a great opportunity and took it!

Some things Sage is doing at 11 months:

~ She is FINALLY eating finger foods all on her own. This took about 1 month of working with her. I finally decided to call her pediatrician to make sure my expectations were normal and if I was missing something. Well...the night I called the dr., Sage started picking up cheese cubes, getting them in her mouth and chewing without spitting them out. Before this, she had picked up food and just crushed it in her hands. We had to feed her. As of today, she is eating a small variety of foods. Sage also holds her own bottle and has been doing this for about 3 weeks.  We really try hard to feed her all organic and natural food and hope we can help her develop healthy eating habits. I know the day will come when she is crying for a happy meal...until then, we will keep it as healthy as possible. For breakfast, we have oatmeal with pureed fruit and cubes of watermelon, grapes, pineapple and other melons. Lunch usually consists of grilled cheese cubes on sprouted grain bread, more fruit and gerber whole grain tomato/carrot/veggie puffs. Dinner is either organic mac n'cheese, bunny pasta with marinara sauce, morningstar chix nuggets (made from veg protein), chicken or black bean burger and we attempt to feed her some veggies such as small carrots, peas and corn. So far, she's not too keen on the veggies and some of the fruit. For snacks, she LOVES all the gerber puffs and some barley and wheat teething "biscuits". Sage still has a bottle 3x daily drinking 4-6 ozs of formula at each meal.

~ Speaking of feeding, Sage loves to feed Max, the dog! She will lean over in her highchair, look for him and then drop a piece of food on the floor for him to eat. She is very amused by Max, her new best buddy, hanging around during meals.

~ Sage recognizes the signs for "eat", "all done" and "dog". She is not signing back at me, yet, but we'll keep working on it. It's my fault as I am not always consistent with signing.

~ Sage claps her hands a lot and seems like she knows appropriate times to clap. We were in a restaurant and Happy Birthday was being sung with people clapping. While others clapped, Sage joined in by clapping. Today, she clapped when she realized I was fixing her lunch. She almost always claps when we clap and is getting the hang of "patty cake". She also waves but still just at random times.

~ Sage is dancing/bouncing up and down when she hears music. She will also dance if she sees us dancing. She loves the dancing we do in our music class!

~ Sage is mostly crawling up on her forearms and knees. She can get around very fast this way and we are having to watch and chase her all over the house. She can get down the hall in 10 seconds flat!

~ Sage loves to imitate noises/movements we make with our mouths. She is getting really good at it! She also imitates different tones in our voices and even seems to sing along sometimes.

~ Sage is still a wonderful sleeper!!  She has slept through the night since she was about 9 wks...we have been so lucky!  She usually goes to bed between 8-9 pm and sleeps until 7:30'ish. She usually takes 2 naps/daily and the morning nap is becoming shorter (around 30-45 mins).

~ Sage loves all books and can read and examine a book for a long time. She appears to be really engrossed in what Strawberry Shortcake or SkippyJonJones is doing on the pages!

~ Sage loves playing her "big" baby grand piano and the smaller piano we keep in her toy baskets in her room.  Sage also seems to love all her musical instruments and we encourage her to play them.

~ Sage is still a very sweet and sociable little baby girl. She can get stranger anxiety but it's not very often this happens. She really does not cry unless she is tired, hungry or frightened by something. This usually happens when she is moving and bumps her head or runs into something hard, however, we have seem her bump off the sliding glass doors with nary a sound!

~ Sage is a perfect only child as she can amuse herself and play solo for a long period of time.  We went back and forth on how to set up a play area for her and decided on gating off her room.  The way our home is set up and the baby monitor allows us to keep an eye on her when she is playing in her room.  Also...she often comes to the gate just to peek out and see what's going on!  The only problems with the room are she loves to get in the closet and wastebasket...we have curtains hanging in place of closet doors and have to put them up and out of the way.  As for the wastebasket....trying to remember to move it up when she's playing.

~ Sage has seven teeth!!!  Six fully in and one on its way.  It is very difficult brushing her teeth as she likes to chomp down on your fingers.  This really hurts.

I am sure I am missing things that are milestones and Sage is doing! If any others come to mind, I'll be back to add to this post!

She's awesome, all that she is doing. Watch out, they just keep getting faster and faster as they figure out how to move away from you! I can't believe it's almost her first birthday either, can't wait to celebrate!
